How To Get Ready To Unleash Your Creativity And Create A Unique Service That Truly Resonates With Your Ideal Clients
What if the reason your service blends in is that you started by looking at everyone else? Creating something distinctive begins not with competitors’ offers, but with a deeper understanding of your clients’ challenges, dreams and desires. The opportunity is to turn that insight into an experience they genuinely want, rather than another service they compare on price.
In this solo episode, Dawn McGruer explores three approaches to developing a service that resonates: empathy, creative thinking and co-creation with your ideal clients. She examines why desire matters more than interest, how generic messaging can obscure the value of an offer, and why client feedback should shape its development. Throughout, she challenges the habit of replicating what already exists instead of bringing your own imagination to the process.
For female founders ready to rethink an existing offer or create something new, this episode offers a more client-centred starting point. Listen to shift from watching competitors to developing a distinctive service with clearer value, greater creative freedom and an experience your clients want to share.

Welcome to episode 121 of Dawn of a New Era. Now, this podcast, as you know, is top 3% global ranking, and we talk about all things marketing, motivation, and mindset. And today's episode is very exciting because it's all about creating something that is totally unique to you. Now, out of all the businesses, out of all the services, I'm afraid to say that businesses are not unique in terms of what they do, but the people in them are.
Now, I am absolutely sick of seeing the same thing on social media, and one of the things that I am truly and utterly passionate about is making business fun, and it is time to shake things up because episode 121 is all about creating a unique service. Now, this is about unleashing your creativity and zigging when others zag, and I want you to remember that: zig when others zag. Because if you are ready to unleash your creativity and actually step up and create something that is so unique and a service that truly resonates with your ideal clients, guess what? It will be so easy to sell.
It will stand out like no other service. You won't just fade into the background and have your clients weighing you up against other people, because what you have will have such differentiation, it will be really difficult. To find something that matches yours. Now, what we want to do here is when we talk about standing out and zigging when others zag, it's all about making your clients' dreams a reality.
So we're going to explore three ways to inspire your service based on their challenges and dreams. Because in the world of online coaches, creators, e-commerce, business owners, be it product or service, people tend to do one thing, and it is my absolute bugbear. They go online. They start searching, they start scrolling, and they find people that they like the look of.
And guess what? And you may even have done this yourself. They start to then look at their products and services. They use that as a base, and then they start to craft their product or service based on theirs.
Now, what is the point? What is the absolute point? It's the wrong way to be innovative, but it's also the wrong way to create something that actually matches what your clients want. So I want you to do this.
Step one: empathize and put yourself in their shoes. I want you to really visualize who you're creating this for. So we all know why we set our businesses up, and we all know that we want to impact people's lives. And, you know, we may even want to leave a legacy, right?
But if you want to create something and craft something really special, you need to take time to deeply understand your clients' challenges, dreams, and desires. And that last one, the reason I put emphasis on it, is that is what sells. Interest doesn't. Desire is what makes someone cross the line from being a potential client to a profitable customer.
So put yourself in their shoes and imagine what they really, truly need and want. And again, that is the important thing. What do people want? When you create something, we don't want to create something so surface level and low level that it's just uninspiring.
I see this so many times because all the gurus, all the coaches are saying, Oh, don't create something that's in person. Do it online. Keep your business lean. You know, don't put any expenditure on investment out there.
Let's do it in the bare minimum, the bare basic. You know, they want you to work with lots of people, one to many, not one to one. And I'm not saying that I want you to spend lots of money and only work one-to-one, but there needs to be some form of hybrid, something that makes whatever you're doing really, really exciting, something that puts the energy back into what you're selling to that business owner, okay? So put yourself in their shoes and imagine, okay, from their mind's eye, what would make it so compelling that they would just be like, Of course, I am in.
This empathetic approach will allow you to create a service that speaks directly to their core needs and aspirations. And the thing is here is that when we talk about the problem with building the bridge from your potential client to someone actually buying, there are so many business owners out there who have the most amazing things that they've created, but their messaging doesn't actually translate. People don't understand it, so hence they don't feel compelled or they don't have desire to go forward and purchase. So stop creating boring things and actually create something from the heart and from your soul, because once you have that and you drop sentences out there about what you're doing, people are like, Oh my goodness, this sounds so exciting.
Tell me more. You will have people reaching out to you to find out what you do. I do things like a secret retreat. Now people have to reach out and find out about that retreat, and why is it secret?
Well, it's— A very, very high-end but high-value retreat. It's very different, everything out there. You know, even from the mode of travel, going on a private jet. I mean, these are life-changing, but also huge memories that people will create by coming on the retreat.
Now, there is lots of other parts of it, but because there are so many facets, so many shiny parts that really attract people, there's no one thing. It's just an incredible proposition. Now, even on my website, there's things out there that people go, Really? Like, is that a thing?
And do I absolutely get those things as well for that money? Now, when you've created something that people almost doubt, you know you've created something different. If it's too generic, people start then asking for reductions. Oh, well, such and such is doing this, but they charge this.
You do not want to operate in that saturated market. Why? Because you are more than this. What you deliver has to carry value.
You want something that is so transformative that is going to generate the most epic results, be it a product or service, that people talk about it. Now, we know in business, whatever business you're in, word of mouth and referral is one of the biggest assets you can have, because that's the marketing that happens when you sleep. Now, there is no better marketing than getting a recommendation. The other thing is, is then, you know, you create something that is just out of this world.
Not only the results are good, but the case studies, the way that someone talks about it, they're referring people, they're sharing about it because it's an experience that they're enjoying. It's something they're proud to be part of. Now, hold that thought for a minute. If you've created something that your clients want to bring their friends, family and peers into, that's really special.
Now, number two is about innovate and think outside the box. Please don't be afraid to break free from the ordinary. We're not ordinary. We are business owners.
We have created businesses from a blank piece of paper. That's extraordinary. So instead of replicating what others are doing, I want you to let your imagination run wild. Brainstorm new ideas.
Take yourself into a space that you find inspiring and invigorating. Brainstorm new ideas. Explore unconventional approaches and think outside the box. So by doing this, right, you're going to create a service that is so fresh, so exciting, and unlike anything else out there.
And guess what? Your energy will market this like nothing else, because you'll be excited. You'll have put the fun back into your life, your business, and your clients. And that's what we're aiming for, right?
We have been through a huge transformation since COVID. Some of us are still seeing the impact. I've got clients who are going through recovering from business trauma, you know, from COVID, from other parts in their lives. Now, when we re-energize, we refocus, we start to think differently.
And this is about really pushing the boundaries. Now, number three is about collaborative and co-creating. Now, I love collaborating in anything. I just love the energy from other people.
And you will notice that one word I say all of the time is energy, because it's one of those things that is infectious, right?
So when we think about collaboration and co-creation and other people, now, regardless whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, there is something about bringing other people into your excitement and joy. When you foster a collaborative relationship with your ideal clients, let's engage them in the process of service development and invite their input and feedback. So by involving them every step of the way, you ensure that your service truly meets their unique needs and exceeds any expectation they had. I do this all of the time.
I create something and I add layers, and I build and I build, and each layer comes from a different learning, a different piece of feedback, okay? So when I'm running things for groups, it could be masterminds, it could be certifications. I'm looking for feedback at every step of the way. I'm charting the journey.
What would make it easier? What would make it more fun? What would make it a better learning experience? And as we build these layers in, that's when it gets truly exciting and you level it up, okay?
So these layers are like an onion. You are peeling back and peeling back, and there's just all of these different parts to it that are creating intrigue. So I want you to remember, the key here is to create an experience like no other. Draw inspiration from your ideal clients' challenges and dreams.
Let's not forget what they actually truly want, and let your creativity flourish. You want to embark on a journey and bring your clients along with you. You want to create something that is so extraordinary, so inspiring, and truly unforgettable. Now, if there is any podcast that I want you to take action from, it is this one, because I am so tired, as I say.
I've seen the same humdrum, the same generic. Drivel, and that's what it is. When we see messaging that just doesn't get traction, then there's a reason for it. It's because it's dull, it's boring, it's beige, it just blends in.
And, you know, this may sound quite harsh, but give it a shake up. You know, think about what you could do to revitalize, reinvigorate, and just make this, like, the number one standout. So the last point here, and I want you to remember this: every time you create something, it could be creating a social media post, an email, a blog, any type of content, I want you to zig when others zag. Don't fall into the trap of doing what everyone else is doing.
Let's operate at a higher level, a more energized level, in a space where no one else is. So remember, dream big and make it happen. And I hope you enjoyed this week's episode.
