Accelerate Your Success Using Neuroplasticity Principles
What if the habits holding your business back were patterns you could change, rather than limits you had to accept? Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to adapt through experience and learning, offers a way to rethink how you approach growth. This episode connects that principle to the daily choices, beliefs and behaviours that influence your progress.
Dawn McGruer, Business Growth Coach, explores how to apply neuroplasticity principles through habit change, lifelong learning, positive internal dialogue and mindfulness. She also introduces the Growth Coach app’s 30-day growth challenge, explaining how setting a clear goal and measuring progress can bring greater structure to personal and business development. Throughout, the focus is on translating an understanding of mindset into practical action.
For female founders building towards seven figures, particularly coaches, consultants and service-based business owners, this is a chance to examine what supports your ambitions and what undermines them. You’ll leave with a clearer perspective on moving from fixed assumptions about your abilities towards deliberate practice, consistent action and a more measurable approach to growth.

Welcome to episode 104 of Dawn of a New Era with myself, Dawn McGruer, the Business Growth Coach. On the eve of celebrating our latest certification, I want to bring to you a very special episode, and we're going to be talking all about neuroplasticity. And this is a subject that I think has become more and more popular in life and business. We hear a lot more about using positive selling and psychology techniques when we are looking at the growth and success of our own personal day-to-day lives, as well as pushing our careers and businesses forward.
In particular, we're going to be looking at the actual principles of neuroplasticity and how you can relate them to your life and business to really accelerate success. And I think this is the key, because if you understand what neuroplasticity is, which is the brain's ability to change and adapt in response to new experiences, learning and development, then we can start to see how we could use this at a daily level. The principles we're going to go through are all linked to pretty much what I do day to day. And one of the biggest changes I've seen in the way that we adapt neuroplasticity is we've seen it a lot more in medicine.
This has brought it more to the forefront of our minds in day to day, and we've become more familiar with the concept. If you think about things like growth mindset, we hear this a lot, and there's many podcast episodes I'm sure you have heard that have mentioned this concept. But that's having sort of the ability to have a more positive outlook on things, a greater understanding of our own personal presence and development, so that we can change our outlook and the way that we manage things in our day-to-day lives. It means that, you know, just believing something like a fixed mindset that you're not good at something.
If you have a growth mindset, it means that you know that you have the ability that after putting effort in and practice that you can improve, okay? So neuroplasticity is similar. The concept is that we all have the ability to change how we think, and this in turn always will impact on our growth. Now, as a growth coach, one of the things that I've felt that's been really lacking, especially in the sort of coaching, but also the services industry, is that I deal with coaches, consultants, service-based businesses from all sorts of professional sectors on a daily basis.
But there tends to be a real gap in measuring what the outcome is. So if someone engages the services of a coach or a mentor or a professional who's going to get them from A to B, to build that bridge, to allow them to achieve the goal, how are they actually monitoring it? The whole concept of growth coaching is that we are constantly striving to really look at the things that impact and influence our own success and our performance. We start to look at things like daily habits.
Now, what I've just done is embarked on a huge project where we have created the Growth Coach app, which I am delighted to say is now available. So from Apple Store to Google, we have created this epic app that has a 30-day growth challenge. The exciting thing here is, is this really does delve into how neuroplasticity helps us on a day-to-day basis change our habits so that we can really accelerate our success. Now, when you identify your habits, that might be things that are hindering your progress towards achieving an ultimate goal, we start to change the way that we look at things.
So if we evaluate your impact in terms of mood and productivity. So we then replace them with new ones that are more conducive to your success. So think about the way that we work at our desks. One of the habits that forms is the way that we take away something like a boring, repetitive task.
So, for instance, let's say we pick up our phones and we go to scroll social media, and then we've lost like 30, 40 minutes endlessly scrolling, and we want to change this habit. Well, one of the things that I've done is created a growth challenge that looks at you identifying a particular area of your business or your life that you want to improve, and we take you through 30 days of actions. Now, all of these actions are designed to rapidly accelerate, you know, growth, performance, and success. And we do this by looking at different pillars, everything from sort of money to life to relationships, you name it.
And you gear your new habits to these more conducive ways of doing things. The next thing is adopting a growth mindset. I mentioned this earlier. So if you adopt a growth mindset to really maximise the potential of your success, you do this by viewing things like your obstacles and challenges more like an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to develop new skills.
It's quite easy to fall into the trap where we think, Oh, we're not very good at this, or This is not working, and it has to stay the same. We all have the ability to change, and we all have the ability to re-gear the destiny of our lives and business. The other aspect here is that when we think about neuroplasticity, yes, identifying habits, yes, adopting a growth mindset, but also things like engaging in lifelong learning. We love to feed the mind, and when we engage in lifelong learning to promote brain growth and development, you can do this by things like taking courses, reading books, listening to podcasts, regularly seeking out new experiences and challenges.
And one of the things with the 30-day challenge... is that it literally walks you through step by step every single success barrier that we've ever thought of that's ever come up in our life, we start to address in the challenge. And it's so interesting because when we've seen clients actually go through this, when we were testing the challenge and the principles within it, we're seeing a growth and a boost of like 20% towards growth. Now that's massive in just 30 days.
So you imagine what you could do if you repeat the challenge and you choose a new goal. And this is what it's been structured for because I firmly believe in neuroplasticity and adopting this at a daily level because when we exercise the brain, the brain is stimulated. And when we engage in activities such as challenges, puzzles, brain teasers and crosswords, or other activities that are definitely going to, you know, push you outside of your comfort zone or challenge your cognitive abilities, then we're feeding this. Now, you have to think that if we were locked in a dark room, you know, and we had no outside stimuli, then we would soon lose our sort of ability to think well, to listen.
We need outside stimuli to keep growing and keep our brains fit. Now, mental fitness is definitely something that I'm passionate about. This is why when I work with growth coaching clients, I don't just work with them one-to-one and obviously in the group side of things, but we actually certify coaches because, as I said before, we need to have some sort of monitor in place that if we're looking at things like, you know, habits, mindset, learning, exercising the brain, how do we know that we're actually having a positive impact? We created a growth and assessment tracker, and basically you take a score at the beginning of the challenge and you do the same at the end.
Now, if you're setting a goal, then we have this plan in place so that we know. You know, at the beginning, where we're at, what we want to achieve, and then we measure it at the end. Now, this is a game changer, and I really feel that having something out there such as the Growth Coach app is going to change the way that people take neuroplasticity and then take it into their lives and business. Because often when we see something or we hear terminology out there, we struggle with how does that connect, even if we understand the principles to a deep level.
But how do we actually take that on board and then have an impact with a day-to-day diary or a day-to-day, this is what I'm doing in my business? We have to be looking at the tasks and actions that we're doing and have this firm goal because we all live once. And for growth coaching, for me, it's not just understanding how your business grows, but it's really understanding what makes people tick. And when we look at the traits of the most successful people in the world, and I've been really privileged to have some of the most inspiring leaders on this podcast, we start to understand the commonalities, and these traits are so fascinating.
And I've built these traits into the 30-day challenge so that you can start to embrace them over this 30 days. Now, we know that habits start to form the more we do them. So some clients might take the challenge once, see huge growth, and then choose, right, okay, I want to go to this next level of success and really keep pushing because how often do we start looking at what our true potential is and our potential?
is limitless. You know, it shouldn't be kind of finite. We should be growing and evolving on this daily basis by utilizing these traits of these highly successful people and by understanding what makes somebody feel really happy, really aligned, you know, and have this unlocking of the secrets of health, wealth, and happiness. This is what the app was totally designed to do, to share the secrets so that we integrate them in our daily lives.
The next thing is all about fostering positive internal dialogue. It's a biggie. We've all been there when we start to have this negative talk. So I want you to focus on fostering positive internal dialogue by replacing the negative self-talk with positive affirmations that support your desired outcomes.
Again, if you're not familiar with this, I have designed affirmations within the app that you can take and you can revamp and make yours and add or take away. You can write your own affirmations. But the thing is, is that when we start looking at what we need to do. And we start really understanding that a goal without a plan is just a wish.
Then we start to see why maybe we're not reaching that potential. So the key here is, is to use something like this 30-day growth challenge to change some of these more negative feelings, or to break down success barriers, or to look at a belief system that maybe you have that is hindering your progress. Now, the next one here is surrounding yourself with positive influences. Building a support network of people who really uplift and motivate you is paramount.
And surrounding yourself with individuals that support your goals and encourage your growth and development, of course, is going to change the way that you see yourself, that you see your success, but you also see the achievability. And you might start to see that you create more audacious goals, more aspirational goals. You start to see that more things are possible because you have this support that's carrying you forward. The last but not least is about practicing mindfulness.
And it's something that, for myself, I maybe didn't realize I was doing as much as I was until I really focused into it. And when we think about mindfulness, this is about practicing things like meditation so that we are regulating the brain and we create new neural pathways that support successful behaviors. So what we start to do is we connect and we start to understand ourselves better. We become more aware.
If you are someone who is not into what some people call woo-woo, it's not about that. This is about understanding you, having a holistic approach and really looking at creating a positive outlook on life and business, but incorporating strategy as well as things like neuroplasticity and mindfulness. This is like the holy trinity because Motivation and mindset are two of the core pillars. You know, for me, marketing, motivation and mindset are the three success pillars that can really catapult a business forward, and these are the concepts that we use in growth coaching.
For clients who are coming on board and learning how to become a growth coach, who are getting accredited at a level that's undergraduate degree, is amazing because what we will see is the way that coaching is perceived. And for many, many years, because it's not regulated as such, we've seen coaches who are totally unqualified and who have maybe not got the experience they need to be dealing with some big issues for their clients. What we wanted to do was to put a protector out there so that we had a growth coaching certification that was accredited and regulated by a body, an authoritative body. And for us, we chose the International Authority for Professional Coaching and Mentoring because they're experts in accreditation and, you know, they've been established since 1998 working with people who are coaching and mentoring.
Because I truly believe that when you work with a client, you do both, especially in the growth coaching arena, because we can't just have coaching. There needs to be an element of guidance, especially when clients come to me and they want to know how to get consistent clients, how to get out of feast and famine, how to grow their business to the next level, how to reach a million pound, how to create a scalable business. These are all questions that people need a strategy for. They need to know that the person who is supporting them has the ability because they've done it before.
They can give step-by-step actions that that person can implement and be creating this one step closer to achieving their goal. So the rule is here is to take time to practice mindfulness regularly and to increase focus because this boosts our cognitive function. And it's really, really interesting to understand that. So even when we think about exercise, what that does, cardiovascular exercise can really impact and help us think better.
It can boost our brain productivity, and these are things that we can just do small increments of, like 10 minutes, 5-10 minutes of mindfulness. It doesn't have to be even every day to begin with. But one of the things that will really help you is doing the 30-day growth challenge, because you'll be given the steps, you'll be given the actions. You can do the monitoring.
You can see where your strengths are, also where your weaknesses are, but most excitingly, where the opportunities are for you to grow. So by applying these principles in your life and business, you can take advantage of the neuroplasticity of your brain to really accelerate success. And I think this is so, so exciting. You can unlock and upgrade to get access to the full challenge, but everyone can download it for free and get the preview of the challenge.
