How I Helped Coaches Achieve 7-Figure Revenues
What does it take to build a seven-figure coaching business when more activity is not translating into consistent cash flow? The answer starts with a business model that can scale, messaging that connects and a clear understanding of which actions generate revenue. It also means recognising that relationships, mindset and money deserve as much attention as marketing.
In this solo episode, Dawn McGruer shares how she helps coaches and service-based business owners work towards seven-figure revenues, drawing on her own experience of building four businesses. She explores the foundations of growth alongside six practical strategies, from setting specific goals and tracking results weekly to refining services through client feedback. Throughout, she makes the case for personalised client experiences, financial clarity and an approach that adapts as results emerge.
For female founders, coaches and mentors ready to scale, this episode offers a more focused way to assess what is working and what needs to change. You will come away with a clearer perspective on replacing scattered projects and unnecessary complexity with measurable priorities that support consistent cash flow and sustainable growth.

Welcome to episode 133 of Dawn of a New Era. And in this podcast episode, I am going to answer one of the biggest questions I am asked multiple times a day. Now, what is that question? That question is, how do I help coaches or service-based business owners achieve seven-figure revenue?
Now, I managed to get to seven figures in seven months, and that is the fastest I've ever scaled a business. I have four businesses, and it definitely did not start that way in my first business. I was 21. I really, really struggled to kind of get traction, first of all, to get consistency in my cash flow.
Then I struggled with getting my messaging on point. I struggled to get connection to convert new clients. And the thing is here is that because I've done this so many times, it's almost become like a blueprint in my mind. There's certain things that I can see, and there's five critical factors that I know that when I've done it multiple times myself, that I've made some epic pitfalls, some huge failures, but I've learned from all of these.
And the art here is, is that I've taken all of these times where it was a challenge, and I've turned them into learnings, and these have been my biggest growth points so far. And definitely when I look back on my journey, when I look at the factors, these are things like looking at the business model. Now, I still see 80% of people who come to me do not have a business model that is even achievable, never mind scalable. Then when I look at the next part is mapping.
This is where we look at the customer journey, like really getting the messaging right. It's the hardest bit. It honestly is the hardest bit in business, but when you get it right, it really starts to change. And things start to change within like 24 hours.
And this is the fascinating thing. There has been so many times that I went wrong with this in the early stages. I'm 45 now. I've had 20-odd years doing this.
I've worked with 30,000 plus clients, and I've generated over 45 million for their businesses. So we've definitely mastered the art. We definitely know what not to do and how to do it in the quickest way possible. So when I look at the next part of the puzzle, it's really around the marketing and looking at how you are attracting and converting leads every day, how you are building relationships, nurturing those leads.
Now, 79% of leads that come into any business don't convert. Why? Because they don't get nurtured. There is a simple way, and what I see people doing so many times is getting so focused on the tech, getting so embroiled in building fancy funnels that they lose focus on what's actually important.
And the thing is here is that when you start to understand what is actually attracting people to you and what is actually moving them from interest to desire, where they absolutely want to work with you, and it becomes part of their vision board, that they see you as the inspiration and the key leader to get them from A to B, then you've done your job. And you need to focus on the things that actually matter, which is talking to people, personalizing the experience, and moving away from tech. Now, automation and tech is great in its right uses, but when it comes to actually really getting these deep relationships where you're connecting with someone in such a way that you have a conversation with them, it's a Q and A. You're not selling to them.
They've already made their mind up. Now, what's next on the list? Well, of course, we have to think about mindset. So I meet so many coaches, so many coaches that haven't got a clue.
Coaches who will say to me, Oh, well, I've never struggled with it, so I don't need to know that with clients. My clients are fine. Everybody has mindset barriers. Everybody needs to go through a mindset shift at different stages of their businesses to move forward.
Everyone has a set of beliefs that may need addressing in terms of, are they a success barrier to them? People can be suffering from imposter syndrome. You know, some of the highest earning business leaders I know suffer from imposter syndrome. And I've definitely experienced this myself.
Now, we know that over about 70% of people will experience it at one point in their life, and it doesn't go away. So as a coach, as a mentor, as a leader, as someone who is taking you on this path, I totally believe that you have to know how to work with somebody to avoid, you know, stalling their path, because there has to be work on everyone's mindset. No one has gone through a life where they haven't taken on some form of belief system that is actually stalling them. So if I think back, there's things like, you know, public speaking.
I hated it. I had to do a lot of mindset work to then get to a point where I was speaking on stages and won best female speaker. So it's totally possible, but it can't be left out. It has to be part of the strategy.
And last but not least, it's money and really looking at knowing your numbers. So many people who come to me don't know the numbers, which is fine. But once we get into that and you start connecting with it, this is when the magic happens. You start to see things moving.
You start to see what you need to be doing every day, saving and selling. And then it becomes more enjoyable because there's different ways of getting connected with your money and mastering this than just looking at spreadsheets. So my advice here is, is that if you're struggling with boosting revenue, here's how I personally help business coaches, mentors, service-based business owners hit seven figures. So many times I'm challenged about this because people are saying, Oh, you know, it's not around the money, but everything is around the money, I'm afraid.
If you're not running a not-for-profit business, you need to know that you're bringing in consistent cash flow. You set your business up to achieve some form of dream. You had a purpose. You had a why.
You either wanted more freedom, and unfortunately you need money for that. You either wanted more financial security, and again, money comes in there. So it shouldn't be a bad word. It should be something that we embrace.
And we enjoy. So here are my six strategies. Here are the six things that, if I break them down, that I look at, and this is exactly the process that I work with my clients. Now, number one is about setting specific goals and tracking results weekly, really breaking the goal down.
Number two is prioritizing feedback from clients to refine services. So not getting complicated, just simplifying things. So really focusing on the thing that generates 80% of your revenue and profit, and looking at focusing your actions into that. Now, number three is developing these actionable plans that bring immediate results.
So we can't be thinking about bringing cash in, you know, in 12 months' time. When I first start working with a client, the priority is cash. Cash is king. Once I can get a foundation of financial growth and security and certainty around the actions, everything changes.
And it does, because money is one of the biggest issues in life. It's one of the things that keeps people up at night, brings on huge stress and worry, you know, can really impact our health and our relationships. So we need to nail this. And number four is adjusting strategies for consistent growth every quarter.
So I work in 90-day cycles with my clients, and one of the things that we look at is being dynamic in our approach. If we set something, we are looking at it in 24-hour increments, weekly increments, monthly increments, and making shifts all of the time so that, you know, if we see a path where we can push that trajectory higher, we jump on that and we do it 10 times quicker. So the thing is here, there's always going to be an element of testing. There's always going to be an element of trying things out, and not all of them will work, but they'll be your biggest learnings, and they'll be your biggest, biggest growth spurts.
So don't take them as, you know, failure. I have had, you know, so many failures if we looked at it that way, but I don't. I look at it as so many learnings, so many paths where I think, oh my goodness, this is the biggest epiphany moment because I get it now. I know what I have to do, and I know what I have to avoid.
Now, number five is improving client retention by focusing on satisfaction, up to 25% for many. So having a customer experience where you work so well with clients. Now, I believe in boundaries, I definitely do, but I also believe in close proximity. Now, I'm getting involved in someone's life and business.
As a business coach, you're not just working on the business, you're working on the whole spectrum here, everything. And you have to get really close, up and personal with this person to get deep into the psyche to see where they're at, what's holding them back, what's working, what will they enjoy doing. Not every strategy fits all. Each strategy is bespoke, and also it depends on whether you know that they'll implement it.
I could design the best strategy in the world, but if my client won't do it because of a mindset block or it just doesn't feel aligned to them, there is no point. You have to know your client so well, and having an experience where they enjoy it, they trust you implicitly, that means that you've got the buy-in, and the chance of success for both of you is going to be higher. Because as a business coach, as someone who's working with clients, so many of my clients come through referrals, you know. So if you don't get the results, you don't get the referrals, and your reputation is here, you know, and for me, my reputation is everything.
And last but not least, number six, using metrics to measure success effectively. 12% more conversions are achieved, and this is the crazy thing. If you know your numbers and you're tracking your marketing, you know exactly that.
The return on investment for every piece of effort that you put in there, every piece of money, and you are laser focused on what you are doing, like your three doer actions every day that have traction in your business, that move the needle, that get you to that next level of growth, then it becomes easy because you know what you're trying to do. So many times clients have come to me and they've tried things, they've got multiple projects on the go, but they don't really know which one is actually working or growing their business. So if you're looking to scale and get to consistent cash months, these are the six things. These are the core activities.
So you need to keep. The focus clear, and you need to have simplicity and clarity in your business. We all know that when we have that feeling, we have certainty. So business coaches see sustainable seven-figure success really quickly.
And it's crazy because so many people say, Oh, you know, I just don't believe it's possible for me. But if you have the belief, and you have the exact steps, and you have someone cheering you on and supporting you who's done it before, it is really difficult not to grow, and not to grow in really quick, you know, periods of time. So when people say to me, you know, you say on average your clients increase revenue by around 20% within 30 days. That's the absolute minimum.
I would say I would probably go way higher than that. And I'd even go as far to say is that the majority of clients, probably like 75%, triple their revenue in 90 days, and also their recurring revenue. The key here is, is that if I hadn't worked in so many niches, if I hadn't seen so many problems with clients' businesses, also made so many mistakes myself, I wouldn't have the knowledge and expertise that I do. Because for me, I can look at a business and it almost just jumps out.
I can see the issues. It's almost like they highlight themselves in red. I can see the things that in green that are working, and it's just like a jigsaw puzzle. It's like reworking it and finding those missing pieces and putting it together.
And it's like someone said to me the other day, it's almost like you've taken a Rubik's Cube and you've kind of mastered it and you've done it in the quickest time. Whereas when I look at my Rubik's Cube, I wouldn't even know where to start the client's theirs. So think about what this means for your business, and think about the one thing that matters: that if you had certainty around consistent cash, if you were super clear on what your dreams and goals were, and you knew that every single day, that every action, every piece of effort, every part of money that you put into it was actually driving your business for growth, you'd do it. So think about how you invest.
Invest in your business in yourself. And often the investments you're making, you know, you could re-gear that into something else that absolutely tripled your business in a small amount of time. And I myself know this, that I pushed so hard, I tried so many things that I didn't know the online space, that if someone had actually guided me quicker and I'd actually invested in a coach far faster in my journey, I would have probably got to the point where I am now in half the time. So I hope this helped you.
I hope this has answered the biggest question that I'm asked almost, as I say, multiple times on a daily basis.
