Your Lead Generation is Failing Because of This One Thing
What if your lead generation is failing not because you need more prospects, but because you are losing the personal connection? Automation can save time, yet when it replaces genuine conversation, the process becomes generic and the relationship suffers. The real question is whether your leads feel valued, understood and properly nurtured before you ask them to buy.
In this episode, business growth coach Dawn McGruer explores why personalisation belongs at the centre of attracting, nurturing and converting leads. She looks at how to assess where your clients come from, understand why they convert and use those insights to strengthen your approach. Rather than treating nurturing as a sequence of automated emails, Dawn explains the role of meaningful interaction in shortening the sales cycle and making sales conversations more straightforward.
For female founders whose lead generation feels like an uphill battle, this is an invitation to prioritise quality over volume. You will come away with a clearer way to assess your process and shift from passive automation towards deliberate, personal conversations that support conversion.

Welcome to episode 135 of Dawn of a New Era with myself, Dawn McGruer, the Business Growth Coach. Now, this is the show where we talk about all areas of growth hacking, from health to wealth to happiness. And today we're going to be delving into the intricacies of business success, and we're going to uncover the secrets behind the most effective strategies around lead generation. Now, this is a crucial topic, and literally every single day I am approached by peers, business leaders, clients talking about lead generation and today's current market.
Now, this episode today really is a game changer because we are pulling back the curtain on the truth about your lead generation and why yours might be failing because of just one thing. So today we're going to be talking about how you can break down your lead generation, and let's look at why it feels sometimes so challenging and what the adjustments are that we can use and change our focus so that we can start turning your prospects into loyal customers faster and easier. So let's get into it. Lead generation is a term that gets thrown around all the time, and literally every single time I go onto social media, I open email, someone is talking about it.
Why? Because it's at the heart of every single business. We need a solid lead generation flow so that we have, in turn, a great sales revenue system and ultimately amazing revenues and profits. But why does it often feel like an uphill battle when we're looking at the lead generation in business?
Well, the simple answer is that we tend to focus on the wrong things. You see, many businesses try to make the lead generation process easier by leaning heavily on automation, and on the surface, it sounds perfect, right? But this is really where the strategy can go off-piste quite badly. Because when you think about streamlining your workflow, you know, saving time and getting more leads without this whole sort of manual hassle, it sounds like the ultimate win-win.
But hold on a second, because let's just put the brakes on here. Because if we look at automation, yes, I agree it can save time. But as consumers, we are craving something that it can never fully deliver. And what is that?
It's personalisation. So when we start to gear our process around personalisation, everything starts to change. We want to feel valued and unique in the process of being courted by businesses. And when lead generation becomes too generic and overly process-driven, we lose the art of genuine conversation.
So ultimately, the relationship building dies a slow and painful death. So the real issue here is that lead generation needs to be a conscious action, not something that just happens passively in our business. We need to have a clear vision of where our leads are coming from, how many are coming in each day, and the conversion metrics. How many convert and why do they convert?
Remember, people buy from people. So we need to keep this key principle at the forefront of our minds when attracting, nurturing and converting leads. Now consider this: 79% of leads don't convert because they aren't nurtured properly. So let that sink in for a moment.
Now, what does nurturing mean in today's business world? Well, sadly, it's not just a series of automated emails. Now, while automation can play a role, absolutely, nurturing is way deeper than that. But it's still really simple.
It's about creating personalised experiences aimed at truly getting to know each person on the other end of the interaction. Now, by doing this, you can really shorten your sales cycle, sell higher value services, and turn sales calls from elaborate pitches into really straightforward Q&A sessions. The selling, the real connection, happens during the nurture phase. So what can you do to improve your process?
Start by analysing your current strategy and think about your clients. Where did they come from? How did they convert? How can you use this information to strengthen your current lead generation efforts?
Now, even if you generated just 10 more leads this week and held 50% more conversations, I guarantee you would not only see increased sales, but also you'd gain this better understanding of your sales process and your customer base. So please don't sleepwalk through our lead generation efforts. Be conscious, be deliberate, and above all, be personal. Your leads and your bottom line will thank you.
So today, think about your lead generation. Think about why it might be failing and how you can turn this around. These simple hacks can change the whole way that you talk to people. Now remember, people buy people.
And the key thing here is, is that if you are doing something and it is not getting the traction or results that you desire, then there is absolutely no reason that we can't make small changes. Now, we know that even the smallest tweak, everything can change in just 24 hours. So the key here is, is to hone in on what is working, where things are easy, where people are having conversations, and tap into those. Because with lead generation, we don't need huge volumes.
We need quality over quantity. And if we stop and we assess and we start getting closer to these people, it's really difficult not to start converting. Now, I talk about this a lot with clients. We have lots of different tactics.
We use traffic light signals. We use lead gen tactics to really visualize the process. There are lots of things you can do. And if you want to find out more, then pop on over to DawnMcGruer.
com and book a chat. We've got this amazing new Fast Fix call. It's around right now. I don't know how long for, but have a look in the show notes because you will see a link on there or also on our website to book a Fast Fix call.
Now, you can jump on that call and ask me your top three burning questions. Now, I promise you, these calls will not only get you selling, but also saving thousands of pounds. On average, each client in that 30 minutes saves a minimum or sells a minimum of £2,000. So what are you waiting for?
Jump on, come and talk to me while the Fast Fix call is here. It won't be around forever, so now is your chance. Now, lead generation, if it's something that is not working, imagine what you can do in 30 minutes and the changes you can make. Now, what would your sales process look like?
What would your revenues look like? And what would your profit look like if you made even just a 10% shift? Imagine if you started to convert 50% more people. Imagine if you doubled your lead generation and really focused in the quality of that nurture.
Now, it's an absolute game changer. This whole process of lead generation, once you nail it, you start to scale it. And this is the art of scaling your business easily. So I hope you enjoyed today's episode.
