How to Achieve Success from The Soul
What if the success you are working towards no longer reflects what makes you happy? Growth, money and a completed to-do list can look like progress, yet leave you disconnected from the purpose behind your business. This episode asks what changes when success becomes an expression of who you are, rather than another outward milestone to reach.
In this solo episode, Dawn McGruer, Business Growth Coach, reflects on the treadmill of saying yes, crossing her own boundaries and losing sight of her why. She explores how choosing three meaningful words helped her align her goals, delegate, declutter and take control of her diary. Alongside this, she shares her five pillars of success: marketing, money, models, mindset and motivation.
For female founders whose growing businesses are demanding more without delivering greater fulfilment, this is an invitation to reconsider what success should feel like. You will come away with a clearer way to assess opportunities against your own priorities, protect your time and build towards goals that genuinely resonate with you.

Welcome to a very, very special podcast episode with myself, Dawn McGruer, the Business Growth Coach. The reason this podcast episode is so very special is it absolutely comes from my heart, because this is something that I feel we do not talk about enough, and this is about how to achieve success from your soul. Every single day that you are working, growing your career, growing your business, looking to get that ultimate growth, that freedom, that flexibility, that whole purpose in your life, we don't connect with it enough. And I really want to bring it back to really honing in on what is special.
And in business, success is one of the things that we hear a lot about. Now, success doesn't come from your job. It doesn't come from your business. It comes from you.
It comes from within your soul, and it's an idea. It's a feeling, a drive that pushes you forward. And you can achieve success in any field, but it won't last if you don't feel like it's coming from the right place. If it doesn't come from inside you and resonate with who you are as a person.
So I want you to take a moment to reflect on what makes you happy and start aligning to it. Now, the reason that this podcast episode is special is because it comes, yes, from my absolute heart, yes, from my absolute belief, but success from the soul, what does it mean? Well, it means you have to be true to yourself and make sure you're doing what you love. If it's not fun, or if it doesn't feel right, then don't do it.
We have to really get super clear on what success is for you. And one of the things that I talk a lot about is that I grew up with the culture of work hard. If you put as much effort, energy you can, and you absolutely throw your heart and soul into it, you will be successful. Now, I literally was living that.
I was like, right, okay, I've got to travel, I've got to do this. Every opportunity that comes up, I'm going to say yes. I felt that I couldn't say no to people, so I was taking on things that were crossing my boundaries, taking up my time. I literally was on this treadmill, and it felt like I just needed to get off.
And I've said this in many podcast episodes about walking to a train and actually counting the steps and imagining, like, in a hundred steps' time, I'll be on the train. And it took me lockdown, honestly, to really connect back with success from my soul. I have always felt that ethical business is at the heart of everything I do, and I've never lost that. I am proud to say that even when I've kind of lost my why and my purpose, I still did business from the heart.
I still did business in a way that felt connected and right, and I think that had a lot to do with my growth. But then when I re-geared and I really started to hone in on, like, what success was for me, I was doing to-do lists, rattling through them, ticking them off, and not even stopping and recognizing success. I didn't even know what success was anymore. I'd kind of hit a point where I'd done everything.
I'd hit 40. I'm 43 now, and I kind of didn't know what my why was. And it was because success comes from the soul. It's not the outward thing.
It wasn't money. It wasn't business growth. It wasn't any of those things that was making me happy. For me, success from the soul is like a movement.
It's a way of living and interacting with yourself and the world around you, and it's based on your unique talents. Your desires and your life path. And it's about finding true fulfillment by exploring new ways to live your life, creating meaningful relationships with people who inspire you and aligning yourself with what makes you fundamentally happy. So I'm here to help you in this process and make it as easy as possible because I've been through it.
I'm all about making success accessible so that anyone can do it. And it's about making dreams become reality. So I had to get super clear, number one, on what my dreams were and how I was going to achieve them. So I started to think about my three words, like what were the three words in a year that I really felt were the things that I needed in my life.
If you think about your three words, you could be like thinking about travel and health, then it could be wealth, okay? And when I started to align my success for my soul, these words came from deep within, right? They were things that just really resonated, really powerful words that when I said them, felt connected to what I wanted. So when I drilled deeper and I started thinking like, what do I do for my goals?
How do I actually get these words into my reality? I started to think, well, okay, let's say health as a word. I started thinking about, well, my goal is around every single day of, you know, health, and anything that doesn't serve me achieving that goal has got to go. Now this was an absolute realization.
It was like the turning point in everything I was doing. I literally started to delegate stuff, declutter. I started taking control of my diary, really empowering myself to serve my goals, to look at these three words and think, right, you know, every opportunity that came in where I'd have just said, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was like, right, okay, does it actually help me achieve my three goals? Does it align to my three words?
And if it doesn't, move on. This, I cannot tell you, was The biggest, biggest change in my life. So when it comes to success, it's not what happens in life that actually matters. It's how you react to what happens that matters.
Because I have been through huge, huge changes in the past few years, massive as a person, through my business, my personal life, everything. I've really learned to focus on my mindset and let go of some of the things that happened in my past and move forward. And doing the work around that, I started to get super clear about what my pillars of success were. And as we evolve, so do our success and the pillars and ethics we stand for, my mission and vision, all of those things.
So I started to recreate them, and I started to think about, right, well, marketing, money, models, mindset, and motivation. They're my five pillars for success. So my five M's form everything that I do. And this was just so powerful to really then start connecting my visibility and the way I talked on social media.
Anyone who follows me, you'll probably see that my social media has changed, and I'm so proud of that because when you draw a line, it's not what happened in the past. You can change anything that you want today, and that's what's so exciting. So we all have these moments when we feel like giving up or we're not good enough. But the difference between those who succeed and those who don't is often the ability to keep on going, to keep working on your goals and trying new things until you feel something that's aligned, something that works for you, because it's different for everyone.
And this is the reason that I renamed my mastermind. I reworked my mastermind because I changed. What I did for my clients changed. The world has changed.
Everything has changed. And this is what delights me. So I set up my mastermind around Success from your soul, because this is what it is. You know, I work with business owners, entrepreneurs.
I work with all sorts of different businesses one-to-one and also in group in my mastermind. But it was about this, this ethical way of doing business, but this way that was aligned to what feels right for us. And what comes from the soul was the most powerful way of my success. So just to recap, stand in your power.
Stand and feel aligned to this kind of essence of what makes you happy. Like, are you on the road that is the direction that really aligns with your true purpose? Do you feel like, you know, me, I kind of got de-geared, you know, as my business grew, it grew legs and I started doing more and more, and I kind of was just on a treadmill doing the things. But were these things actually impactful?
Were these things serving me? Do you need to go through a delegate and declutter? Do you need to take control of your diary? Now, I would love you to share your words with me.
Tell me what your words are for 2023, and think about aligning your goals to these. And if you want to find out more, you want any free resources, connect with me on social media. You know where to find me. It is DawnMcGruer.

I want to get it to a number one. So when I think about my words and where I'm at, I'm going to be sharing more about this journey and how I've taken my three words, and I'm going to be sharing more of this in my next podcast. I'm going to tell you what my three words are. I'm going to share what my goals are, and I'm going to talk about my strategy.
How I'm actually going to turn my dreams into reality.
